Attend Glenorchy Salvation Army financial event during Anti-Poverty Week

The Salvation Army is encouraging financially stressed Australians to reach out for support early to avoid potentially devastating ongoing debt this Anti-Poverty Week, October 17-23.
One of the ways people can do this is by attending a local free financial wellbeing event run by The Salvation Army in Glenorchy.
This event is an interactive financial literacy session including energy saving tips from Aurora. Community members are invited to bring their Aurora energy bill into Glenorchy Salvos. This will provide an opportunity to meet with Aurora team members to work through their energy bill, and identify energy saving techniques, as well as discussing available payment options and plans to meet their energy need. Community members are also invited to join us for a community lunch. This event will take place on the 18th October between 10:30am and 1:00pm.

Please, don’t struggle in silence- attend your local event or reach out to The Salvation Army for support. We are here to help,” says Stacey Milbourne, Doorways Manager, Salvation Army Tasmania.
The Salvation Army has a range of services available where individuals and families can reach out for financial support. Two of these are Moneycare, which is The Salvation Army’s free and confidential financial counselling service, and Doorways, The Salvation Army’s emergency financial relief service.
Moneycare’s services are unique and adaptable to individual circumstances, and can help across the following areas:
– Advocacy with banks and other financial institutions to help with debt relief
– Advocacy with utility providers (electricity etc) to help with affordable repayments
– Letting you know what your rights are and other places you can get help
– Financial counselling and support to get you through the tough times
Furthermore, The Salvos Doorways service is available to support people facing urgent financial need. As the largest provider of emergency relief in Australia, Doorways can provide immediate financial relief for people who need urgent help paying for food and other essential goods.
These services are proven to significantly improve one’s financial situation. After engagement with Moneycare, those with no difficulty in financial knowledge and behaviour increased to 95% (increase from 75% at intake), and those with no difficulty meeting living expenses increased from 18% to 54%.
The Salvation Army’s services also have shown to improve one’s overall wellbeing, where those with no probable serious mental illness increased from 68% to 87% after engagement with Moneycare.
