The Art Collection of Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) grows, with the donation of a new piece by local benefactors Cameron Crowley and Brett Anderson.
The locally created artwork ‘Black Rhinoceros’ by Jack Randell was first exhibited at Western Plains Cultural Centre (WPCC) this February 2022, where it was seen by Crowley and Anderson; resulting in the pair approaching Randell to purchase it.
The work, depicting the iconic Black Rhino, was one of the hero works of the exhibition ‘Animal Studies’ in which the artist looked to explore the way animals display aspects of self-awareness through their physical space, how their bodies shape their movements, and their relationships with others.
“The importance of donations such as this to the collection is paramount, and is the primary way that new works enter the collection of the WPCC” said Dubbo Regional Council’s Cultural Development Officer, Jessica Moore. “The rhino is iconic within the Dubbo Region, and we are appreciative of the donation by Brett and Cameron.”
Brett Anderson has supported previous creative initiatives such as BOOMDubbo. “I am passionate about supporting regional creativity, especially in situations that build a visually dynamic and accessible city” said Brett Anderson.
“Both Cameron and I envisioned this artwork being displayed in a location where it enhances a space; hoping it would bolster creative thoughts within residents and visitors, as well as promoting our community as one that values creativity and the strength of creative practice in regional NSW” said Mr Anderson.
Cameron Crowley reiterates that passion. “Not only is it important to support creative spaces in regional areas, it is important to support local artists. We chose local resident Jack Randell to purchase from due to his inspiring success, and contribution to the creative scene within the region.”
Artist Jack Randell has works in both private and public collections within Australia and Overseas, and has an impressive exhibition history. Randell has exhibited in regional and metropolitan areas; including in locations such as Canada, USA, Scotland, Barcelona and Japan.
The artwork was installed on Monday 28 November in the departures lounge at the Dubbo Regional Airport.
