A new viewing shelter at Dove Lake in the iconic Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Park has officially been unveiled by Premier Jeremy Rockliff and Parks Minister Roger Jaensch.
The project is part of the Rockliff Liberal Government’s $26.8 million investment towards the implementation of the Cradle Mountain Master Plan and delivers on a commitment to provide visitor infrastructure for the long-term sustainable future of this iconic park.
Premier and Tourism Minister Jeremy Rockliff said the building was designed and delivered by Tasmanian businesses, supporting local jobs and building a strong economy.
“I would like to acknowledge the work of architects Cumulus, design studio Futago, and Vos Construction, as well as Trawlwoolway man and curator Dave mangenner Gough for his cultural advice,” Premier Rockliff said.
“The viewing shelter acts as an arrival point for visitors to Dove Lake showcasing the unique cultural and natural values of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Visitors will be able to enjoy the spectacular view from the undercover seating or through the floor-to-ceiling glass panels.”
The viewing shelter is accessible and provides all weather protection for visitors, with the site also including a new shuttle bus shelter, amenities, parking, bus turning circle and boardwalk connections.
The new shelter sits within the area of the previous carpark footprint, features a low profile and its wave like outer construction mimics its surrounds, minimising impacts on the natural environment.
Parks Minister Roger Jaensch said our spectacular ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Parks were one of the main reasons people visit Tasmania and they were also a key driver of our economy, especially in regional areas, with tourism opportunities supporting job creation.
“The new viewing shelter at Dove Lake will further support visitors to the region, with interpretative signage enhancing the visitor experience and inspire a deeper connection to the landscape and the Outstanding Universal Value of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area,” Minister Jaensch said.
Dove Lake is an integral and much-loved part of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Parkand the Rockliff Liberal Government is committed to continuing to provide and deliver world-class visitor experiences.
