Dr Renuka Shanmugalingam was awarded the Student Prize at the 15th Asian-Pacific Congress of Hypertension 2019 for her work investigating the effects of aspirin on placental growth factor and the development of preeclampsia.
The Congress was held by the Asian-Pacific Society of Hypertension (APCH) and hosted by the High Blood Pressure Research Council of Australia (HBPRCA).
“I am humbled to receive this award, and the accompanying opportunity to present my winning abstract at the British and Irish Hypertension Society meeting in Glasgow next year, representing HBPRCA,” says Dr Shanmugalingam, PhD student at HRI.
The Congress was attended by national and international leaders in the field of cardiovascular research. Keynote speakers included Professor Annemarie Hennessy, Vascular Immunology group leader at HRI, who presented on Pregnancy-induced hypertension.
