Devonport City Council has endorsed the release of the Draft Community Engagement Strategy 2024-2028 for community feedback at its August Meeting.
Community feedback is being sought on the draft Strategy from Tuesday 27 August to Monday 23 September 2024. Feedback received during this period will be considered prior to tabling the draft Strategy at a future Council meeting for formal adoption.
The Strategy aims to enhance how the Council interacts with its community, ensuring that residents have a voice in the decision-making processes that shape the City’s future.
“Council firmly believes that collaborative decision making enriches the community and leads to better outcomes. The Strategy seeks to support engagement activity, identify and utilise best practice engagement methods, with a view to enhanced and valued community feedback”, the Mayor, Cr Alison Jarman said.
The draft Strategy outlines key approaches and principles for engaging the public in various Council projects, programs, and decisions. It is designed to enhance transparency, build trust, and foster meaningful dialogue between the Council and the community.
“We want to create an inclusive and responsive Strategy that reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of our residents. This is your chance to tell us how we can better engage with you, listen to your concerns, and work together to build a stronger, more connected Devonport,” said Cr Jarman.
The draft Strategy has been developed in line with current engagement practices, community feedback and uses an evidence-based approach as to the most effective engagement forms.
“Feedback in relation to this draft Strategy is imperative, as the identification of the best and preferred engagement methods and practices for the community by the community itself, will ensure that Council continues to engage and consult in an effective and valued way” Cr Jarman said.
