Draft for Municipal Fire Management Plan released for public comment

The Northern Grampians Shire community is being asked to provide comment on the draft Northern Grampians Shire Municipal Fire Management Plan (MFMP) 2019-22.

The MFMP, which is a requirement under the Country Fire Authority (CFA) Act, aims to reduce the occurrence and effect of fire in the community to protect life and property.

Community members can , and or by emailing .

The plan is also available to view at council’s Stawell and St Arnaud customer service desks.

The community will have until Sunday 14 July to provide their feedback.

Northern Grampians Shire contains vulnerable and high-risk communities in the event of a fire, and under state government climate change projections, the Grampians region can expect to experience harsher fire weather and longer fire seasons.

Just some of the recent fire history within the shire includes Wartook, Roses Gap, Dadswells Bridge, Black Range, Ledcourt, Mount Lubra, Halls Gap and Deep Lead.

These fires caused loss of residences, buildings, stock and even life, and severely impacted a large number of people and properties.

Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire Council, Cr Kevin Erwin said, “We really encourage our community to take note of the draft plan and leave us some feedback.”

“It’s really important and something we’ve got to be on the front foot about, as it’s too late to put a plan in place once an event happens, so feedback and input from the community is vital.”

Key contributors to the plan along with council and the CFA include:

● Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning

● Parks Victoria

● Victoria Police

● Department of Health and Human Services

● VicRoads

● Grampians Wimmera Mallee Water

● AusNet Services
