Draft Model Code of meeting Practice now on exhibition

At the Ordinary Meeting of Council held Tuesday night, Councillors resolved to place the draft Model Code of Meeting Practice on exhibition for community feedback for a period of 42 days.

Director Economic and Organisational Development, Mrs Shireen Donaldson said the Model Meeting Code provides a uniform set of meeting rules for Councils to help ensure more accessible, orderly, effective and efficient meetings and applies to all meetings of Councils and Committees of Councils of which all the members are Councillors.

“The draft Model Code of Meeting Practice contains a range of new previsions amendments to ensure Council and Committee Meetings are held as efficiently as possible for Councillors, Committee members and the community,” said Mrs Donaldson.

“Council must adopt a Code of Meeting Practice that incorporates the mandatory provisions of the Model Meeting Code no later than 12 months after the ordinary Council election, and community members are encouraged to review the document and provide their feedback no later than Friday 29 April 2022.”

Griffith Mayor, Doug Curran encourages members of the community to review the draft Model Code of Meeting Practice and take the opportunity to voice their opinion, concerns or other feedback to Councillors.

“It is important that the community review the document and have their say – if you don’t speak up, we cannot take your concerns or suggestions into consideration, which is a key part of our role as Councillors,” said Councillor Curran.

“I would encourage you to visit the Council website and use the online submission form to let us know your thoughts on the draft.”
