Draft rating strategy ready for public comment

Budget infographic

Rate revenue is a key component of Council’s budget and is used to provide a range of important community services. The manner in which different ratepayers share the rates burden is set out in Council’s Rating Strategy and this has been subject to review over many months.

Council has adopted the current rating categories and differentials for inclusion in the draft 2022-2025 Rating Strategy, which will now be exhibited for a four-week period to allow the community to provide its feedback.

The Strategy outlines how the council divides up the rates burden across different types of properties in the shire and the differential rating structure allows different types of properties to be rated at a different rate in the dollar.

The draft Strategy will be available online at www.colacotway.vic.gov.au. Hard copies are also available for viewing at Council’s Rae Street office between 8.30am and 5pm (Monday to Friday) and at Apollo Bay Customer Service Centre (GORVIC) between 9am and 5pm.

Submissions must be made in writing and received no later than close of business Friday 25 March 2022 on email to [email protected] or via mail to 2022 – 2025 Rating Strategy Consultation, Colac Otway Shire Council, PO Box 283, Colac, VIC 3250. Any person who makes a submission may request to speak to their written submission at a meeting of the Submissions Committee (date to be determined).

Council will consider any submission prior to the adoption of the final 2022 – 2025 Rating Strategy at a future Council meeting.
