Drink-driver crashes into vehicle checkpoint

A man is expected to be charged on summons following a crash in Gisborne South this morning.

It is alleged a car was travelling on the Calder Highway when it crashed into bollards at a vehicle checkpoint about 4.15am.

The black BMW X5 then hit a parked car before coming to a stop.

No police or defence personnel were injured during the incident.

A 33-year-old was transported to a police station where he allegedly returned a positive evidentiary breath test.

The Sunbury man had his licence immediately suspended and is expected to be charged on summons drink driving and other traffic offences.

The man was also found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer and was issued a $4957 penalty notice.

The directions by the Chief Health Officer, under the State of Disaster declared in Victoria, have been enacted to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.
