Drink driver crashes twice at Bordertown

A driver has crashed into a pergola and a fence in two separate collisions at Bordertown overnight.

Police on patrol in Bordertown last night heard a car doing burnouts and the sound of a crash about 11.30pm on Friday 18 September. The patrol located accident damage to the pergola of a cafe in Scott Street, Bordertown and saw a silver sedan take off erratically down the street. The driver refused to stop and was not pursued for safety reasons.

Police received another call just before 6am this morning to report a car had crashed into a paddock fence on Tatiara Road, Bordertown sometime overnight. The driver was asleep in the back seat.

The driver, a 25-year-old Kaniva man, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.111. He was arrested and charged with aggravated due care, property damage, leave scene of crash, misuse of a motor vehicle, manner dangerous, drink driving and breach of the Emergency Management act (cross border community member).

He has lost his licence immediately for six months and his car was impounded for 28 days. He was bailed to appear in the Naracoorte Magistrates Court at a later date.
