A 26-year-old Richmond man is expected to be charged on summons after blowing more than double the legal alcohol limit in Gowanbrae last night.
Police were called to the Western Ring Road following reports a grey Ford Falcon sedan had crossed the median strip and crashed into a pole about 11.45pm.
It is believed the sedan spun after hitting the pole, before coming to a stop on the opposite side of the road.
The driver and sole occupant of the sedan underwent a preliminary breath test, before accompanying police to a nearby station for an evidentiary test, which returned an alleged reading of .253.
Although his car was considerably damaged, the man was not injured.
He had his licence immediately suspended and is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving offences.
