A Windsor Gardens man has been reported for drink driving and other offences, after police stopped a small car at Renown Park with nine people including five unrestrained children in it.
Just after 6pm on New Year’s day a Western District patrol stopped a small Peugeot hatchback sedan on Cavendish Avenue.
As the patrol approached the car they were astounded to discover nine occupants squeezed into the small car, none of which were wearing seat belts. Plus a small dog.
Police spoke to the driver, a 36-year-old man, other occupants included a 20-year-old man, a 32-year-old woman seated in the rear foot well, a 29-year-old woman, as well as five children aged 15, 8, 6, 2-years-old and just over 12 months old.
The police patrols breath tested the driver, who returned a positive result, at which time some of the occupants of the vehicle began causing a disturbance.
As a result of that disturbance, the 32-year-old woman was arrested for disorderly behaviour and hindering police, as well the 15-year-old girl who was also arrested for hindering police duties.
The driver was conveyed to the Holden Hill Police Station where a breath analysis test was conducted, returning an alleged a blood alcohol reading of 0.140, or nearly three times over the legal limit.
The Windsor Gardens man was served with an immediate loss of licence for six months and the Peugeot he was driving defected and impounded for 28 days. He was reported for drink driving, failing to wear a seat belt and failing to ensure passengers were wearing seat belts.
He will be summonsed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.
The 32 year old woman also from Windsor Gardens was bailed to appear Port Adelaide Magistrates at a later date.
While the 15-year-old girl was issued with a youth caution and released.
Finally the three adult passengers were each issued an expiation notice for failing to wear a seat belt.
