Drink driving charge at Mooloolaba, QLD

An elderly man has narrowly escaped serious injury after an alleged drink driver lost control of her car and crashed into a house at Mooloolaba last night.

It will be alleged a woman was driving at high speed along Goonawarra Drive around 1am when her vehicle mounted the kerb and ploughed through a residential front yard before colliding with a neighbouring home.

A 72-year-old man who was inside the house at the time sustained injuries to his leg.

The crash caused extensive damage to the residence by knocking in a brick wall.

Police attended the scene and conducted a roadside breath test (RBT) with the alleged 21-year-old female driver before she was transported to Maroochydore Station where she returned a Blood Alcohol Specimen (BAS) of 0.201% – more than four times the legal limit.

The Mooloolaba woman was charged with high range drink driving and dangerous operation of a vehicle whilst adversely affected.

She is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on June 26.

Police continued to be frustrated by the number of motorists continuing to take unnecessary risks on Queensland roads.
