Mansfield Highway Patrol Officers detected a speeding vehicle in Bonnie Doon last night (19 April).
The purple Ford Falcon was allegedly detected travelling at a speed of 183km/h on the Midland Link Highway which has a posted speed limit of 100KM/H about 8.30pm.
Police attempted to intercept the vehicle however it failed to stop for police, taking off at a speed of 197km/h.
The vehicle was intercepted shortly after on the Hume Freeway and the driver was arrested.
The driver, a 24-year-old Doveton man is expected to be charged on summons for evade police, reckless conduct endangering life, exceed speed and other traffic offences.
His vehicle was also impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1125.
This intercept and impound forms part of Operation Nexus, a five day high visibility road policing operation over the Easter long weekend.
The state-wide operation will focus on country road users, speed, impaired drivers, seatbelts, on and off road motorcycles, fatigue due to long distance travel and driver distraction through mobile technology and navigation devices.
Priority areas include traffic corridors that link metropolitan areas to popular holiday destinations such as the Grampians, Surf Coast, Great Ocean Road, Greater Shepparton Area, Phillip Island, Bass Coast, South Gippsland, Baw Baw and La Trobe.
Operation Nexus will run from 12.01am on Thursday 18 April to 11.59pm on Monday 22 April 2019.
