Driver charged following fatal fail-to-stop crash – Mount Druitt

A man will face court after being charged following an investigation into a fatal fail to stop crash in Sydney’s west late last month.

About 11.45pm (Sunday 30 June 2024), emergency services were called to Abell Road, Melonba, after reports an injured man was located roadside.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man – believed to be aged in his late 70’s – however, he died at the scene.

Officers attached to Mount Druitt Police Area Command established a crime scene which was forensically examined by specialist officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit.

Following an investigation by the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit, about 11.30am yesterday (Wednesday 10 July 2024), NSW Police, with the assistance of the Australian Federal Police and Australian Border Force, arrested a 32-year-old man as he returned to Australia at the Sydney International Airport.

The man was taken to Mascot police station where he was charged with four offences – fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, negligent driving occasioning death and not give particulars to police.

The man was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court later today (Thursday 11 July 2024).
