Driver identified as inquiries into Darlington crash continue, NSW

The driver of a car sought after police appealed for information about a fail to stop crash at Darlington has been identified.

The male driver contacted police last night and has spoken with crash investigators. He and his vehicle have been eliminated from inquiries.

Shortly after 5am (Sunday 20 January 2019), emergency services were called to Shepherd Street, Darlington after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a car.

A 26-year-old man was treated at the scene and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers from Redfern Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

As inquiries continued, police are appealing to locate a white vehicle described similar to a late model hatchback – possibly a Corolla.

Crash investigators would like to speak to the driver and/or occupants to find out what he or she may know.
