A man has been fined and his licence suspended after he was detected travelling almost 90km/h above the speed limit near Yass, with his pregnant partner and three young children on board.
Officers from Riverina Highway Patrol were patrolling Goldfields Way at Old Junee about 10.30pm last Friday (21 August 2020), when they saw a station wagon allegedly travelling at 169km/h in a signposted 80km/h zone.
The car was stopped and police spoke with the driver, a 50-year-old man. He returned a positive roadside drug test and was arrested and taken to Temora Police Station for a secondary test. The results are pending on this test.
The man – who’s from Temora – has been issued with a $2482 fine and six demerit points for speeding; his licence has been suspended for six months.
Three children under the age of seven were in the back seat and a child-at-risk notification has been made to FACS.
