Mornington Peninsula Shire is now inviting keen skateboarders and scooter riders to provide feedback on the proposed new design for Rye Skate Park.
We’ve engaged expert skate park design company, Playce, to improve the current design. Local skaters have helped inform the plan and upgrades by providing useful feedback to Shire officers and the Playce team in several in-person workshops last year.
Stage 1 upgrades include:
- Skate elements suitable for beginners. The current park is great for advanced skaters, but does not have much for those just starting out. This is about to change!
- Street skate elements. There will be mini ramps, banks, blocks, manual pads and rails.
Stage 2 upgrades include:
- Access improvements, including a shared path from the skate park to the playground and accessible car parks
- A new social area with seats and shade
- Improvements to the adjacent playground. This will make juggling big kids and little kids’ needs easier for all parents and carers!
We want feedback from all park users on the design. Are we hitting the mark? This is your chance to improve your local skatepark, so let it count! Go to our website to see and comment on the plans.

Mayor Councillor Simon Brooks
Council is proud to support our residents of all ages to live an active lifestyle. In this case, we’re levelling up the skate park experience in Rye. By incorporating some beginner-friendly skating elements we’re making sure budding skaters are safe and welcome at the park.
Nepean Councillor Susan Bissinger
A big thank you to Chris Brayne for securing full state government funding and to the community for pushing for essential upgrades to Rye Skate Park, which skaters greatly appreciate. Stage 2 will enhance the adjacent playground, add new paths, create a social area, and provide accessible car parks.
Nepean Councillor Sarah Race
This project is another great example of community and the Shire working together. Local skaters have been actively involved in the project and in planning the new design. Collaborating with community members help us achieve great outcomes that benefit everyone.
