Six new Community Recycling Stations (CRS) are now open and ready for use across the Snowy Monaro Region, giving our local community an easy and environmentally friendly way to dispose of a whole range of problem household waste.
The new stations were officially launched at a small gathering held at Cooma Library today, attended by representatives from Council’s executive leadership and waste teams, along with project representatives from the Canberra Region Joint Organisation (CRJO).
“The new CRS provide residents with a free and convenient way to dispose of household batteries, ink cartridges and fluorescent globes. We all have these small problem waste items in our home, and we want to make recycling them as quick and easy as possible,” said Chief Executive Officer Peter Bascomb, Snowy Monaro Regional Council.
“Once dropped off at the CRS, Council will transport the materials to the larger Community Recycling Centres in Cooma or Jindabyne. The small problem waste items will be recycled and/or safely disposed of. This improves our recycling rates and keeps potentially hazardous materials from entering our environment.”
Community Recycling Stations are located across the region at:
• Cooma Library
• Cooma and Berridale Council Offices
• Bombala Community Centre
• Jindabyne Mitre 10
• Michelago Bank of Bins
The rollout of the Community Recycling Stations has been coordinated by the Canberra Region Joint Organisation (CRJO) working closely with Snowy Monaro Regional Council and other regionally based local governments.
This rollout is part of a larger project to promote the use of Community Recycling Centres in the region and increase the recycling rates of household problem waste.
