Drop off your extra recyclables – for free – Wollongong

‘Tis the season for extra recyclables – and if your yellow-topped bin is maxed post-Christmas, we’ve a solution.

Wollongong City Council is coordinating three additional recycling drop-offs in Woonona, Wollongong and Port Kembla.

At these locations residents will be able to handover recyclables such as bottles, cardboard, glass and hard plastics to Remondis staff.

“Christmas can be a time when we’re faced with additional items for our recycling bins and the bins can fill quickly,” Wollongong City Acting Lord Mayor Councillor Tania Brown said.

“We know our community is passionate about their environment and recycling and we want to support this. That’s why we’re offering an additional drop-off at three locations across the city to make it easier to recycle.

“Plus, if people aren’t able to make one of these dates or locations, they can always take extra recyclables to the Community Recycling Centre at Whyte’s Gully. It’s open seven days, and it’s free to drop recyclable items off there.”

The additional recycling locations are:

  • Friday 27 December, Ocean Park, Woonona, from 8-11am
  • Friday 27 December, Beaton Park, Wollongong (Gipps St entrance), from 1-4pm
  • Monday 30 December, Port Kembla Cricket Club, from 8-11am

These collection points are not a ‘Return and Earn’ refund service.

Cr Brown said the recycling drop offs are in addition to the usual waste collections that will continue across the Christmas/New Year period.

“While the waste truck drivers will spend Christmas Day off the road and with their family and friends, they’ll be back at it on Boxing Day collecting bins,” Cr Brown said.

“The message is to pop your bin out as normal and it’ll be collected as close as possible to your usual collection day.”
