Swan Hill Rural City Council is offering free green waste disposal at the Swan Hill and Robinvale landfills on Saturday, 31 October and Sunday, 1 November.
Council’s Director Infrastructure Svetla Petkova said the free weekend was a great way of keeping recyclable green waste out of landfill.
“Residents can place lawn clippings and small tree prunings in their normal waste bins, but there isn’t always enough room.
“Some people also just want a more environmentally friendly way to get rid of their green waste,” Ms Petkova said.
Ms Petkova said dedicated loads of green waste taken to the landfill are mulched and then used as garden cover around the municipality and made available to residents to self-load for free.
“Materials that will be accepted over the free green waste weekend include small tree prunings, garden clippings, grass and leaf litter.
Commercial loads of green waste will not be accepted,” she added.
The Swan Hill Landfill will be open 9am-2pm on the Saturday and 9am-4pm on the Sunday.
Robinvale Landfill will be open 9am-3pm on the Sunday.
