Drug Squad detectives have arrested two men following an ongoing investigation as part of Operation Mako.
The men, aged 66 from Bulleen and a 69-year-old Romanian national were arrested in Glen Waverley today.
Detective Acting Superintendent Jacqueline Curran from the Organised Crime Division said, the arrest of these two men is the result of a protracted investigation into a sophisticated international drug trafficking syndicate involved in the large-scale importation of cocaine into Australia.”
“Operation Mako is an example of the cooperation that occurs with foreign law enforcement to disrupt the importation of illicit drugs into Australia”, she said.
Both men remain in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
They are expected to be charged with attempting to traffick in a large commercial quantity of cocaine and they will appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.
