A man – with his toddler in the backseat – has allegedly thrown methylamphetamine from his car while leading police on a low-speed pursuit through the Mid North Coast overnight.
Police from the Mid North Coast Target Action Group stopped the driver of a blue Subaru WRX on High Street, Wauchope, for a random breath test about 5.25pm yesterday (Saturday 25 April 2020).
His two-year-old son was restrained in the back seat at the time.
The driver was unable to produce a licence and checks revealed he was disqualified from driving until December 2024.
When officers advised the man they were going to search the car, he allegedly accelerated from the scene. Police activated lights and sirens and directed the driver to stop; however, he allegedly ignored the directions and a pursuit was called.
During what was a 6km-long low-speed pursuit, police will allege the driver threw white powder out the window twice before stopping in Rosewood where he was arrested. Police recovered white crystals – believed to be methyl amphetamine – from the vehicle as well as cocaine and $1690 cash.
The man was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where he’s been charged with seven offences,
• Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly
• Drive while disqualified
• Supply prohibited drug
• Possess prohibited drug (two counts)
• Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, and
• Wilfully obstruct officer in execution of duty.
The 28-year-old man, from Bago, has been refused bail and will appear before Port Macquarie Local Court today (Sunday 26 April 2020).
The child is being cared for by relatives.
