Northern Territory Police are overall pleased with the behaviour of Northern Territory motorists over the Easter long weekend.
Traffic operations were in place throughout the whole of the Territory with approximately 5,500 roadside random breath tests conducted.
171 drivers were issued traffic infringement notices for speeding while 19 drivers were issued traffic infringement notices for not wearing seatbelts. 55 vehicles were found to be unregistered and eight drivers were located driving unlicensed.
Disappointingly, 18 drivers were apprehended for drink-driving. Eight of those apprehensions were for low-range while 10 were for mid-range. The two drink drivers who returned positive results for high-range were apprehended in Tennant Creek.
Sadly, one fatality was recorded in the Easter period for 2019 compared to four in 2018.
“Although one death over Easter is still one too many I am hopeful that all drivers out there are starting to get the message that it’s time to be responsible on our roads. This includes all road users; bike riders, motorbike riders, cars, trucks and even pedestrians,” Senior Sergeant Angela Stringer said.
