Eastern Beaches nursing assistant charged after resident tied to chair, NSW

A woman has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after an Eastern Beaches nursing home resident was allegedly tied to a chair.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were called to the facility on Anzac Parade, Little Bay, yesterday morning (Tuesday 24 December 2019), after a 73-year-old woman reported she’d been tied to a chair the previous day (Monday 23 December 2019), while being showered.

The woman told police a plastic bag was used to tie her left leg to a chair, causing severe bruising and pain.

A 67-year-old woman – who is an assistant in nursing at the home – was arrested about 4pm yesterday and was taken to Maroubra Police Station, where she was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The woman has been granted conditional bail to appear in Waverley Local Court on Thursday 9 January 2020.

An apprehended violence order has also been taken out on the injured woman’s behalf; the assistant has been stood down by her employer.
