Murray River and Campaspe Shire Councils will once again unite for Echuca Moama’s Australia Day celebrations on 26 January.
Hosted by the Rotary Club of Echuca-Moama, this year’s breakfast event will be held at the Botanic Gardens located within the Moama Recreation Reserve compound.
Murray River Council Mayor, Cr Chris Bilkey said the new location is a great opportunity for locals and visitors to enjoy the first-class recreation facilities available across the area.
“The Botanic Gardens have been brought to life by a group of passionate community members from both sides of the river, so what better way to showcase this great facility than bringing our community together for Australia Day celebrations,” he said.
This year Cliff Downey will MC the celebrations, while Australia Day ambassador and the founder of ‘Every Little Bit Helps’ Charity, Katryna Robinson, will provide the address.
In addition to the presentation of Australia Day awards, a citizenship ceremony will also be held on the day, with new citizens pledging their loyalty to Australia and its people.
Campaspe Shire Council Mayor, Adrian Weston encouraged the community to join in the celebrations.
“Australia Day provides a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together in a spirit of celebration. We come from all walks of life and all nations of the world, yet we are united by the simple fact that we are Australians,” Cr Weston said.
Both mayors thanked Rotary for bringing the council areas together once again for the joint celebrations.
Australia Day breakfast celebrations will kick off at the Botanic Gardens from 7am with a free early bird barbecue breakfast.
The official program starts at 7.45am followed by entertainment from folk-country musician Gwen Potter and the Murray Singers.
There will be vintage cars and motorcycles on show, face painting activities, and for additional family fun you can visit the Moama Adventure playpark.
And there’ll even be celebrations the night before too, with Rotary hosting their annual Australia Day Eve dinner.
Held at Moama Bowling Club from 6pm, the dinner costs $35 per head and includes a two-course meal with drinks at bar prices.
The evening will also include an address from Ambassador, Katryna Robinson.
