NSW State Emergency Service volunteers from the Hawkesbury Unit have rescued an eclectic parrot named Ozzie from Grose Wold in Sydney.
The 10-year-old parrot had escaped his cage and flew up into a nearby Eucalypt tree about 20 metres above the ground.
NSW SES Large Animal Rescue Expert and Hawkesbury Unit Deputy Commander David King says that they were able to rescue the parrot with help from the .
“A stream of water was aimed above the parrot ensuring his feathers were soaked through,” says David. “Then with some careful coaxing, Ozzie gave up his perch and fluttered down to the ground.”
“Ozzie was quickly wrapped up into a towel to avoid any fingers coming into contact with his beak. The soggy bird was handed back his owner and headed inside for some TLC and gentle drying with the blow dryer.”
