Edward River Council has expanded its 2024 Australia Day Awards program to include recognition of deserving young people and community groups.
Residents are encouraged to nominate their local heroes across a broader range of categories this year, with nominations now open for the 2024 Australia Day Awards.
The Edward River Council Australia Day Awards celebrate the achievements and contributions of individuals and community organisations in our region.
“Australia Day awards recognise and celebrate people in our region who go above and beyond to make our community the best place it can be.” said Mayor Cr Peta Betts.
“It is so important that we as a community take the time to reflect on what we appreciate about our community; and then show that appreciation through the effort we take to let those community groups and members who make our lives better know their efforts have not gone unnoticed.”
In 2024, Council will recognise outstanding contributions from local community members and organisations across nine categories including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sports Award, Junior Sports Award, Arts & Culture Award, Junior Arts & Culture Award, Community Event of the Year, Community Group of the Year and Environmental Citizen of the Year (the Bill & Elwyn Hermiston Memorial Award).
Award recipients are determined by Council’s Australia Day Awards Assessment Panel, with recipients announced at Council’s Australia Day celebrations, held annually on 26 January.
Completed nominations should be received by the Edward River Council by close of business on Friday 1 December.
Nomination forms are available on Council’s website and are also available from theCustomer Service Centre located at 180 Cressy Street or the Edward River Library.
