The Nillumbik community is invited to have their say on the Environment Effects Statement (EES) for the Yan Yean Road upgrade Stage 2, which was released by the Victorian Government today for public consultation.

This is an opportunity for the local community to have a direct input on the Yan Yean Road upgrade Stage 2, with the EES on public exhibition until 5pm on 9 October 2020.

The proposed upgrade by Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) will see Yan Yean Rd duplicated between Kurrak and Bridge Inn roads.

The project will also include:

• Replacing roundabouts with traffic lights at Orchard and Bridge Inn roads

• New traffic lights at North Oatlands Rd and Bannons Lane and Jorgensen Ave

• New roundabouts at Heard Ave and Youngs Rd.

• A centre median and kerbside safety barriers along the road.

An EES looks at the possible environmental, social, cultural and economic impacts of the project and identifies how these could be managed. After the EES exhibition, an independent panel will consider the EES and the submissions made during the exhibition period.

A report will be provided to the Planning Minister for consideration with a decision expected mid 2021. Nillumbik Shire Council will be making a submission on the EES. Council will be considering its submission at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 15 September.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, all MRPV consultation about the EES has been moved online.

The full EES report, as well as a project overview, fact sheets and information on how to make a submission, can be viewed at the MRPV

Those unable to view the EES online can request a free information pack from MRPV that includes a USB with the complete EES and key approval documents and a printed copy of the EES Summary Report.

MRPV will also be hosting four online information sessions with the project team, available to view from their .

These will be held on:

• Saturday 5 September, 10am

• Thursday 10 September, 2pm

• Saturday 19 September, 10am

• Tuesday 29 September, 6pm.
