The Marshall Liberal Government has revealed eight more designs for school upgrades in Adelaide’s western suburbs, as part of its record $1.3 billion capital works program that will create thousands of jobs across the state.
Thousands of students and families at Henley High School, Brighton Secondary School, Brighton Primary School, Underdale High School, Hallett Cove School, Plympton International College, Ocean View College and Adelaide Secondary School of English can now see what their future school will look like, with $73.8 million being spent across the eight schools.
The concept images showcase modern, state-of-the-art facilities that staff and students will soon be able to access, including:
- New buildings to provide additional science, arts, home economics and general classrooms at Henley High School, as well as a brand new administration facility and feature gateway to the school;
- A new two-storey building providing additional classrooms, STEM classes and home group spaces at Brighton Secondary School;
- A new two-storey administration building, upgrade of the main school entry and a new 150-seat performing arts centre at Underdale High School, as well as new science labs and an extension of the automotive building; and
- A full refurbishment and expansion of the middle school building at Hallett Cove School, encompassing food technology laboratories, visual art studios and adjoining outdoor area.
Education Minister John Gardner said local communities will be excited by the concept designs for their new schools.
“We are pleased to be revealing these designs to families in Adelaide’s western suburbs, spanning from Taperoo to Hallett Cove, who will undoubtedly be looking forward to seeing these upgrades come to life,” said Minister Gardner.
“Construction on these sites will begin in the coming months, creating local jobs and contributing to the massive boost to our economy that our education capital works program will bring to the state.
“The concept plans released today reflect local priorities for each school and provide a glimpse of the modern, world-class facilities we are building as part of a generational upgrade of schools across the state.
“The Marshall Liberal Government’s $1.3 billion education capital works program is meeting a range of critical needs in our education system.
“We are lifting capacity for schools in areas with rapidly growing public school enrolments, improving facilities that sorely need it, and ensuring that as Year 7 transitions into high school, our students benefit from high quality facilities in their new environments.”
