Election commitments for Sunbury

Election Commitments for Hume

Sunbury was announced as a beneficiary of the Federal Labor Party’s election commitment for the Ligar Street upgrade and an urgent care clinic, this week.

Hume City Council has welcomed news of the $250,000 commitment towards the upgrade of Ligar Street between Gap and Cornish Streets, by Federal Labor candidate for Hawke, Sam Rae.

Ligar Street is a key connecting road between Gap Road and Macedon Street and provides an alternative route for people wanting to travel north and south while avoiding the main shopping precinct.

The project will include works for kerb and channel construction and upgrades to the road pavement, which will improve road, cyclist and pedestrian safety for residents travelling to nearby amenities.

Mr Rae also announced plans to fund an urgent care clinic in Sunbury, which will allow people to get access to quality care without having to wait in a hospital emergency department.

The clinic will provide urgent care to treat a variety of ailments.

Hume City Council now calls on the Federal Liberal Party to match this funding to ensure these projects progress for the Sunbury community.

Mayor of Hume City, Cr Carly Moore said:

“We welcome the news of these commitments for the Sunbury community. Sunbury is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Hume, and many projects such as the Ligar Street upgrade, would be hard to deliver without investment from other levels of government.”

“This project will decrease the amount of time local residents will spend in their cars and support a safer passage for people traveling to and from the Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Sunbury Lawn Tennis Club and Sunbury Motor Inn, or traveling through to Macedon Street.”

“Access to timely health support in urgent situations is crucial. The closest emergency department to Sunbury is 30km away in Sunshine. This clinic will help improve the health outcomes for residents in Sunbury and neighbouring suburbs by providing alternative care options closer to home.”
