Q1. May I display an election sign (such as a poster) in support of my preferred candidate for MP?
A1. Yes. The display of an election sign that contains election material in support of a candidate in the state government election is permissible.
Q2. What size election sign is permissible?
A2. The election sign must not be more than 0.8m2 in area.
Q3. Where may I display the election sign?
A3. On or within a premises with the prior, written consent of the owner.
Q4. On what premises and places is the display of an election sign not permitted?
A5. Electoral material, (including election signs) must not be placed on display on a public place (such as a public road, including a public footpath / nature strip, Power Pole and other public infrastructure, Chatswood CBD Mall, Train station, Public Parks and Reserves). Election signs also must not be displayed on state or local council properties or a Heritage Item or Draft Heritage Item.
It is also unlawful to leave any advertising material (such as leaflets) on a motor vehicle. Council’s Rangers may issue fines for littering and unauthorised advertising offences.
Q5. When may I commence to display an election sign and when must it be removed?
A5. An election sign may be placed on display 5 weeks immediately preceding the day on which the election is held and must be removed 1 week immediately following the day on which the election is held.
