Mildura Arts and Culture Advisory Committee is seeking nominations for the 2022 Elliott Award.

The Elliott Award recognises an outstanding contribution to the arts in our community, particularly where that contribution has not previously been formally acknowledged.

Previous recipients of the award have been recognised for:

  • length of service to the arts
  • breadth of their contribution throughout the term of their involvement in the arts
  • encouragement and nurturing of children and youth in arts practice
  • championing of arts involvement to the broader community
  • creation of a significant positive community legacy to the development of the arts in our community.

Mildura Arts and Culture Advisory Committee Chair Donald Mayne encouraged local residents to nominate someone they believe is deserving of recognition.

“Our region has a vibrant arts community across a whole host of different mediums, from performing and visual artists through to art or music teachers and those working behind the scenes,” Mr Mayne said.

“Within this thriving community there are countless people who’ve tirelessly dedicated themselves to the arts, passing on their knowledge, supporting the industry and contributing for the broader benefit of the arts.

“The Elliott Award is a powerful and lasting way to ensure these amazing people receive the recognition they deserve, so I would encourage the community to submit a nomination for someone they’re aware of who is worthy of recognition.”

The Elliott Award was founded by the Mildura Arts and Culture Board (2004-13) and from 2014, has continued under the guidance of the Mildura Arts and Culture Advisory Committee.

Previous winners include Des Tobin (2006), Tom McCullough (2007), Vaughan Stirrat (2008), Neil Noyce (2009), Mollie Kalms (2010), Shirley Bowie (2011), Neil Fettling (2012) Kay Sylvester (2013), Peta‑Lynne Buchanan and Janine Kerr (2014), Leonard (Len) Krause (2015), Yvonne Hedley (2016), Henry Tankard (2017), Mavis Francis (2018), David Searle (2019), Megan Sullivan (2020) and Willie Hannah-Rogers (2021).
