The Issues and Opportunities Papers for Elmore and Goornong have been released for public feedback until Monday July 4.
City of Greater Bendigo Director Strategy and Growth Steve Hamilton said the intention was to develop Township Plans for both areas, but from the work carried out so far it became clear the development of Structure Plans would achieve better long-term actions and outcomes.
“Based on findings collated for the Issues and Opportunities Papers, including community feedback and surveys, this work will inform and guide the development of an Elmore Structure Plan and a Goornong Structure Plan to manage future growth over the next 20-plus years in these areas,” Mr Hamilton said.
“The Structure Plans will build on existing community strengths and qualities and establish a framework that will guide what services, facilities and infrastructure are needed to support growing and changing communities in Elmore and Goornong.
“Producing detailed Structure Plans for Goornong and Elmore provides a stronger framework and pathway for future planning amendments to be developed with community input before being added to the Planning Scheme.
“The Issues and Opportunities Papers set out around emerging themes – infrastructure, future growth, town centre, public space and environment, bushfire and movement.
“With the release of the Issues and Opportunities Papers, the communities in both townships are encouraged to read the papers and provide feedback. This is your chance to tell us if there are any gaps not identified and captured.
“We will be hosting drop-in sessions and workshops in Goornong and Elmore where the communities can ask questions and have direct input in the project. All this work on the ground will help guide the next stage in the development of the Structure Plans.
“These plans will help to identify what the communities in Elmore and Goornong value and need protecting and to look at how to support a growing population over the coming years with the right infrastructure, services and facilities.
“We want Elmore and Goornong to become more cohesive and connected to enhance liveability as the townships continue to grow.
“You are invited to the drop-in information sessions at Goornong Drovers Arms Hotel from 1pm to 3pm on Thursday June 16 (34 Midland Highway, Goornong) and from 1pm to 3pm on Thursday June 23 at Elmore Community Centre Hub (3 Clarke Street, Elmore).
“Workshops with community participants will be held in July to ensure all comments collected during this public engagement period are considered as we progress towards developing the draft plans. Details on the workshops will be published on our Let’s Talk page once they are finalised.”
