An emergency exercise will be held at Ballina Byron Gateway Airport on Wednesday 13 September 2023 from 8.30am to 12noon.
Emergency service agencies will participate in the exercise in collaboration with airport staff, including members of NSW Fire and Rescue, NSW Police, State Emergency Services, NSW Ambulance, Airservices Australia, and the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Service.
Every two years the airport conducts a full field exercise to test the effectiveness of the aerodrome emergency plan. This exercise is essential to meet Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) requirements.
“We simulate a real emergency on the airfield to ensure emergency procedures remain current,” said Julie Stewart, Airport Manager.
“A lot of work goes into planning and coordinating this important field exercise with emergency services. It’s an excellent opportunity for inter-agency stakeholder cooperation and ensures that in the unlikely event of a real emergency, all parties are well coordinated to respond effectively.”
