Emergency repairs works continuing on Kempsey-Armidale Road

Kempsey Shire Council

Kempsey Road has collapsed in several locations

Emergency repairs on Armidale-Kempsey Road are continuing after heavy rain caused a series of landslips near Flying Fox Cutting seeing the road blocked and collapsed in several locations.

Armidale Regional Council is responding to a number of landslips and road collapses on Kempsey Road following heaving rainfall throughout February and March, which has resulted in residents being isolated.

Kempsey Road is open to local traffic and emergency vehicles only and remains impassable at Flying Fox Cutting. The continual wet weather is slowing emergency works and adds to the road’s instability. A 4.3 tonne load limit is in place and motorists are asked to drive to conditions.

Mail is being delivered to Bellbrook Post Office for residents on the Kempsey side of Flying Fox Cutting, and mail is being delivered to Wollomombi Post Office for residents on the Lower Creek side.

Kempsey Shire Council has assisted Armidale Regional Council with emergency repair works after Lower Creek residents were isolated due to a landslip at Hacks Cutting. Armidale Regional Council could not reach this landslip as the road on their end had collapsed, and Kempsey Shire Council was able to restore road access to these residents.

Please report any new damage or landslips to Armidale Regional Council on 1300 136 833.

Lower Creek residents are encouraged to call SES on 132 500 for support or assistance, and 000 in the event of an emergency.
