Empowering the Future: 2024 Kimberley Aboriginal Leadership Roundtable

The Kimberley Aboriginal Women’s Council (KAWC) is excited to announce the 2024 Kimberley Aboriginal Leadership Roundtable, set to take place from November 11-13 on Yawuru Country in Broome, W.A. This significant event will bring together 100 Aboriginal women and girls from across the Kimberley for three days of yarning, truth-telling, healing, and action-oriented discussions.

Under the theme Collective Leadership – Rise Up!, this year’s roundtable will focus on several key initiatives:

  • Expanding the Women’s Empowerment Program and the Rise & Shine Program for young Aboriginal girls.
  • Increasing transparency and understanding of financial investments in the Kimberley.
  • Advancing Nation-Rebuilding and Cultural Reform through peacebuilding.
  • Activating the Collective Leadership program to drive gender justice and self-determination.

Janine Dureau, CEO of Kimberley Aboriginal Women’s Council, highlighted the event’s importance.

“This Roundtable is a powerful space where Aboriginal women and girls come together to lead transformative change. By uniting our voices, we strengthen our collective leadership to build a just and equal future for our communities.

“Our vision is for a Kimberley where Aboriginal women are empowered and resilient, and where we take action for a just and equal future. Our mission is to create environments for Aboriginal women and girls to thrive, and to provide the tools for women and girls to determine their own futures,” said Ms Dureau.

Since its inception in 2021, the Kimberley Aboriginal Leadership Roundtable has been a cornerstone for fostering connection, learning, and strategic planning. The 2024 event promises to continue this legacy, empowering participants to shape a future grounded in resilience, leadership, and self-determination.
