Encouraging Young People To Read Big This Summer

Tasmanian Government

The Big Summer Read initiative will soon kick off in libraries across Tasmania, providing a fun way to encourage children and young people to read over the summer school holidays.

Children and young people can register for the Big Summer Read and track the number of books they read, write book reviews and complete reading-related challenges to win prizes.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the Big Summer Read is a fantastic initiative that supports learning and literacy.

“We want to encourage young people to explore the world of reading, challenge themselves and ignite their imagination,” Minister Palmer said.

“By making reading fun and interactive, we are helping to foster a lifelong love of reading and learning.

“I invite children and young people across Tasmania to join the Big Summer Read and embark on a summer of reading adventures.

“Literacy and reading skills are the building blocks for life, and we are making transformational change in our schools to lift literacy outcomes for all students as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.”

Libraries Tasmania is leading the Big Summer Read and will be holding fun events and activities at libraries across Tasmania throughout the summer.

The Big Summer Read runs from 1 December 2024 to 2 February 2025.
