The is a new resource for all health professionals, staff and organisations that care for people with end-of-life and palliative care needs.
The framework is designed to enhance the delivery of high-quality end-of-life and palliative care by empowering users to identify gaps in their knowledge and guide learning. It supports education and training by:
- guiding the identification of current knowledge, skills and experience
- clarifying future education and training needs
- guiding the acquisition and/or development of required education and training.
The framework’s three domains reflect the core knowledge and skills (learning items) considered integral to the delivery of high-quality end-of-life and palliative care.
Learning items at each level are incremental, and some of the learning items are integral to all health care but are applied in this framework in the context of end-of-life and palliative care.
It is vital all health professionals, staff and organisations are equipped to support patients in end-of-life and palliative care. Holistic, high-quality care requires a wide range of services and palliative care is no exception.
WA Health and the End-of-Life Care Program are committed to improving the provision of end-of-life and palliative care across the State, to meet the needs of our population.
