Living more sustainably is achievable, but it comes down to getting the right advice to help navigate energy supply offers, buy solar or switch to an electric vehicle.
Council is offering residents a new, free, personalised advice service to help make sense of the confusing world of energy and sustainable living.
Sustainability officers will offer advice at drop-in sessions every fortnight at community facilities across the Shire throughout the year, or can be booked for one-on-one meetings in person or online.
Sustainable living topics to discuss could include food production, waste reduction, building and renovating, and water efficiency around the home and landscape.
Energy topics could include getting off gas and going all-electric, solar, electric vehicles, bulk-buys, saving energy and finding better energy deals, as well as accessing the Victorian Government’s $250 power-saving bonus.
Mayor Ben Ramcharan said he was “pleased to offer a service that could really make a difference in the lives and homes of those in our vast community, as well as the planet”.
“Last year, Council declared a climate emergency and adopted its 10-year Climate Action Plan. A key initiative from year one of the plan is to provide a free energy advisory service for our community, to help reduce energy consumption costs and emissions.
“With many residents feeling the pinch due to rising costs of living, we’re thrilled our in-house experts can meet you in person to discuss simple things that can be done to save energy and water, grow food, minimise waste and access bulk-buy opportunities.”
There is no requirement to book into these fortnightly sessions, just drop in, or make a booking for an alternative one-on-one discussion at council offices in Greensborough, or online via Council’s website.
