Every 4 years, council elections are held for residents and ratepayers to elect Councillors to represent the community.
There are 2 type of voters in the council election, state-enrolled and council-enrolled. All voters can vote once in the Knox council election.
State-enrolled voters are automatically enrolled to vote in the council elections, and voting is compulsory. You can check or update your details on the
Some enrolment rules have recently changed. If you are not a state-enrolled voter, but own or occupy a property and pay rates to Knox City Council, or represent a corporation, you may now be eligible to enrol with Knox City Council, as a council-enrolled voter, to vote in this year’s council elections.

It is not compulsory for you to enrol with council to vote. However, if you are eligible and decide to enrol as a council-enrolled voter, voting is compulsory in the election.
