Entrance sculpture relocated
A metal sculpture that welcomes visitors to Horsham has found a new home at the western entrance to the city.
Commissioned in 2012, the artwork was originally installed on Stawell Road and has been re-positioned on Dimboola Road, near the Hazel Street level crossing.
The new site, on an elevated landscape with lighting, will allow more visibility from the highway. It also offers better opportunities for pedestrian traffic to see the artwork up close.
Horsham Rural City Council will add seating and vegetation to the area over the coming weeks.
Melbourne-based artist Laura Woodward joined Council’s operation team during last week’s repositioning.
The design comprises two primary components – the main sculptural form, and a Horsham sign which acts to both welcome visitors to the city and to lead the viewer’s eye to the sculpture itself.
Named Concentric, the sculpture represents Horsham as a rural city emerging from the Wimmera plains.
The laser cut shapes reflect the rock faces of the Grampians and Mount Arapiles, the municipality’s two dominant features. The series of circles overlap to represent our community coming together.
