EPA continues to respond to reports of asbestos contamination in parks and reserves across Victoria, attending suspected sites, collecting samples and having them tested, and working with local government on having affected sites remediated.
Since last update, EPA has inspected Seabrook Reserve, Broadmeadows in the Hume City Council area following a report of potential asbestos-containing material in mulch. The sample has been sent for priority testing.
EPA also continues to respond to reports of potential asbestos contamination not associated with mulch in parks and reserves.
EPA and Hobsons Bay City Council have determined the likely source of contamination at all but two (2) of the council’s 14 affected parks as being historic dumping or legacy in situ contamination.
