Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) welcomes today’s VCAT decision to uphold EPA’s works approval for Melbourne Regional Landfill (MRL) with varied conditions.
This has been a lengthy process for all involved and EPA will carefully review VCAT’s findings, its report and the new conditions in detail over the coming days internally to see what learnings there may be for how EPA considers and regulates landfills within the state.
EPA will also liaise with other parts of government that have key roles in waste management infrastructure (Sustainability Victoria and the Metropolitan Waste Resource and Recovery Group).
EPA is committed to preventing harm from pollution and waste and can assure the community that it will actively manage and monitor the site’s compliance now and into the future.
