Equipping security agents to respond to suspected terror attacks

A new resource will help better prepare security personnel if they need to respond to a suspected terrorism incident in South Australia.

Consumer and Business Services, which is responsible for licensing security agents, will be making the resource promoting counter-terrorism awareness available to security personnel across the State. The resource has been jointly developed by CBS and South Australia Police.

“Our state is a safe place to live but unfortunately we can’t afford to be complacent when it comes to terrorism,” Attorney-General, Vickie Chapman said.

“Security personnel have a key role to play in counter terrorism measures.

“When attending events or venues, they can help deter threats, and in the event of an incident they will also have a role supporting emergency services.

“It’s vital that they know what they need to do and how they can help.”

Emergency Services Minister, Corey Wingard said the resource provided valuable guidance on how to prepare emergency management plans, actions to take in the immediate aftermath of an incident and information police and emergency services need.

“It also provides information about how security personnel can play a support role if required by emergency services when they arrive on scene,” Minister Wingard said.

“Being vigilant about the dangers that exist and prepared for the worst is paramount and this resource will equip security personnel with the knowledge and skills they need to be ready, to know what to look out for and how to respond.”

The Counter Terrorism Awareness for Security Personnel complements mandatory training delivered as part of licensing requirements. Information on the resource will be sent to all licensed security personnel and industry stakeholders and is also available online here:
