EV Drive Days coming to Canberra

Australian Greens

Canberrans will have the chance to test drive an electric vehicle (EV) and find out everything they need to know about owning an EV at the NRMA EV Drive Day event on 10-11 November.

Minister for Water, Energy and Emissions Reduction Shane Rattenbury said this event will give Canberrans the opportunity to find out everything they need to know about owning and driving an electric vehicle (EV) all in one place.

“One of the biggest barriers for new EV owners, or people considering the transition to an EV, is the uncertainty that comes with new technology” Minister Rattenbury said.

“Events like the NRMA EV Drive Day give Canberrans the opportunity to chat to experts about buying, charging, and operating EVs over their full lifespan. There’s no better way to get a true feel for an EV than by getting behind the wheel yourself and seeing exactly how they handle.

“Up to 600 spaces are available to test drive an EV with a defensive driving instructor by your side to provide you with all the support and resources you need to test the limits around a controlled racetrack.

“There’ll be a wide variety of EV models available to test drive that suit everyone from young families to car enthusiasts, including vehicles from Tesla, BMW, Hyundai, Nissan and more.

“Even if you don’t drive an EV on the day, there will be plenty of other providers, activities and experts to chat with and get advice from. There will also be kids’ activities so the whole family can have fun, and plenty of food and drink available.

“The Sustainable Canberra Expo on 13 and 14 October is another opportunity coming up where Canberrans will be able to test drive an EV and chat with industry experts and leaders, EV owners, and retailers.

“Transport emissions make up over 60percent of emissions in the ACT. As we continue on our Pathway to Electrification and net zero emissions by 2045, events like these help us arm Canberrans with the tools and the knowledge needed to make the transition to an electric vehicle at a time that is right for them.”

The NRMA Drive Days event will be held at the Sutton Road Training Centre in Majura, from 1pm – 4pm on Friday the 10th of November and 9am – 4pm on Saturday the 11th of November 2023. Free parking will be available on site.

The event is free to attend, but registration is required for EV test drives.

The NRMA EV Drive Days event is a partnership between the ACT Government, NSW Government and NRMA.
