Just prior to midnight on Sunday 29 September 2019, police attempted to intercept a blue Holden Commodore on the Brooker Highway near Cleary’s Gates. That vehicle evaded police into Hobart City.
The vehicle was then later located travelling south on the Southern outlet and it continued south on the Channel Highway past Snug, eventually turning back towards Hobart where road spikes were successfully deployed at Margate. The vehicle then turned off into Howden Road with all four tyres deflated, and drove at low speed until it was successfully intercepted in Brightwater Road Howden. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was utilised and was able to assist in the safe resolution of the intercept.
The two occupants were known to each other and the man was subject to a Family Violence Order protecting the female passenger.
The 21 year old man from Kingston was charged with evading police with aggravated circumstances, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, other driving charges and breaching his Family Violence Order. He was detained for court.
The 19 year old woman from West Moonah was charged with drug offences and bailed.
