- Major upgrade for Geraldton Health Campus reaches important milestone
- Three companies responded to expression of interest (EOI) invitation
- Evaluation of EOI underway to progress project to request for proposal stage
- $122.7 million McGowan Government investment to deliver improved health services in the Mid-West
The $122.7 million upgrade of Geraldton Health Campus is moving forward, with evaluation of Expressions of Interest (EOI) to lead the main construction works now underway.
Three major construction companies have responded to the EOI invitation, with Australian Building Construction Company (ADCO), Lend Lease and Multiplex Constructions having each submitted a response.
The EOI is the first of two steps to appoint a managing contractor to deliver the important regional health project.
The managing contractor model aims to achieve value for money and minimise delivery risk, which is an important factor following previous global supply issues and upward pressure on costs.
The Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment will significantly improve clinical capacity in emergency and critical care and inpatient mental health services.
It includes a new building and refurbishment of existing infrastructure, including:
- an expanded emergency department;
- a new intensive care unit with a redeveloped high dependency unit; and
- a new integrated mental health service.
Following evaluation of the EOI responses, shortlisted respondents will be invited to progress to the request for proposal stage, where one or more preferred respondents will be selected to undertake negotiations for the appointment of a managing contractor.
The design of the health campus, including the functional and technical requirements, timeframe for delivery, and incorporation of elements that reflect the region’s Aboriginal culture, landmarks and history, will be confirmed through the managing contractor appointment process.
As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
“This significant project is the single biggest investment at Geraldton Health Campus since the Gallop Government redeveloped the hospital.
“The hospital provides outstanding care for the Mid-West community and this redevelopment project will complement that care.”
“This significant project will make a real difference to healthcare for Western Australians living in the Mid-West region.”
As stated by Finance Minister Sue Ellery:
“This $122.7 million project is a major investment into the Geraldton Health Campus, and the State Government is fully committed to delivering the planned upgrades.
“The response from industry to the EOI has been positive and we are excited to now be a step closer to delivering this important health project for the people of Geraldton and the Mid-West region.
“The managing contractor model, which allows the Government and managing contractor to work together to deliver the best outcomes for the project and State, is a rigorous process that has been used to successfully deliver other major projects in Western Australia.”
As stated by Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton:
“This is an exciting milestone for the Geraldton Health Campus project and the community that it services.
“I know the people of Geraldton and surrounding regions will be pleased to see this project moving to its next stage.
“This project was a significant election commitment for the Mid-West region and will strengthen the quality health care for those who live here.”
