Events and Visitor Economy Strategy to help Latrobe City thrive

Council adopted the Events and Visitor Economy Strategy 2024 – 2028 (the Strategy) at its most recent Council meeting.

The Strategy outlines the collective vision for the future of Latrobe City’s events and visitor economy and provides a framework to deliver this through targeted event attraction, to grow tourism in our City.

The Strategy also details Council’s dynamic and compelling events calendar and emerging visitor experiences. This will help to capitalise on our City’s strengths and create a sense of genuine connection for visitors and the community, that enhances pride and liveability.

Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Darren Howe, said the Strategy will be instrumental in guiding the future of tourism and events in Latrobe City.

“The goals of the Strategy include visitor spend, positive perception and community benefit. The opportunity ahead is to grow Latrobe City’s strength as a regional leader in major events and enable events to fully deliver the economic and social benefits they offer to the community,” said the Mayor.

“Latrobe City’s identity is transforming and attracting new events, and visitors will help shape that identity.”

West Ward Councillor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, is a member of Council’s Tourism and Major Events Advisory Committee (TAMEAC).

“The Strategy will help to create an exciting and diverse calendar that will offer something for all, including arts and culture, business events and nature and outdoors and, to ensure the City plays to its strengths, and creates opportunities for our community and visitors,” said Cr Gibson.

The Strategy was released for public consultation via the ‘Have Your Say’ page on the Council website. A number of submissions were received from the community which informed the development of the final Strategy.
