- 27 events supported by the Sport and Recreation Events Funding Program 2024/25
- More than $900,000 benefiting local, State and national sport and recreation organisations
- Funding to ensure WA communities stay fit, active and engaged
A cycling super challenge, wakeboarding tournament and ocean swim are just some of the events communities across Western Australia will be able to enjoy by participating or watching, made possible by WA Government sport and recreation funding.
A total of 27 local, State and national sport and active recreation organisations have received $915,290 in grants from the 2024-25 round of the Sport and Recreation Events Funding Program.
Administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), the program aids sport and active recreation organisations in planning, securing and delivering sport and mass participation events across WA.
With most recipients delivering events from January to July 2025, sports enthusiasts will be able to engage in various activities such as swimming, running, cycling, paddling, Gaelic football, volleyball, football, rugby, rowing, yachting, bouldering, bowling, kiteboarding, wakeboarding, water polo, softball, hockey and windsurfing.
The Gaelic Athletic Association of WA Inc received funding to host the Australasia File 2025, a first for WA, and the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Rugby League Western Australia successfully hosted the 2024 WA Harmony Cup, bringing together more than 1,300 participants from multicultural backgrounds.
Program funding aids organisations in creating strategic event plans or tender proposals, however, most applicants primarily use the support to back significant local, national, or international events, or large-scale mass-participation activities.
In regional WA, this funding facilitates the hosting of premier competitions at State, national, or international levels or with various initiatives beyond Perth.
The recipients of the 2024/25 Sport and Recreation Events Funding Program are:
- ARLC WA – $20,000 for the NRL WA Harmony Cup 2024;
- Softball WA – $28,500 towards the Australian U16 Girls and U16 Boys Softball Championships;
- AusCycling – $50,000 for the 2025 AusCycling Road ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Championships;
- Water Polo Australia – $50,000 for the 2025 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships;
- Bunbury Runners Club – $15,000 for the Bunbury 3 Waters Running Festival;
- WA Marathon Club – $25,000 for the 2025 Rottnest Running Festival;
- Sport Climbing Australia – $13,500 for the International Bouldering Competition Bid Development;
- WA Clay Target Association – $47,455 for the 2025 ACTA Skeet and DTL ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s;
- Artistic Swimming WA – $50,000 for the WestralAsian Cup;
- Australian Blind Bowlers Association – $17,020 for the 44th Annual Australian Blind Bowlers Association ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Championships;
- Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club – $30,000 for the 2025 Warren Jones International Youth Regatta;
- Swimming WA – $28,000 for Geraldton’s Big Ocean Community Swim;
- Midland Cycle Club – $16,800 for the Stan Gurney VC Memorial Road Race;
- Rowing WA – $16,000 for the Coastal Rowing Beach Sprints;
- Gaelic Athletic Association of WA – $50,000 for the Australasia File 2025;
- WestCycle – $46,000 for the Brigadoon Super Challenge;
- RugbyWA – $37,000 for the WA 7’s Championship;
- Kiteboarding WA – $49,900 for the Summer of the Pond 2025;
- Triathlon WA – $50,000 for the Busselton Festival of Triathlon;
- Paddle WA – $41,900 for the 2025 Paddle Australia Canoe Marathon Championships;
- Swimming Mermaids – $49,700 for the Margaret River Ocean Swim;
- Busselton Allsports – $50,000 for the Busselton Jetty Swim 2025;
- Football West – $30,000 for the Bunbury and South West Regional Festival of Football 2025;
- The WA Hockey Association – $30,000 for the Goldfields Festival of Hockey – Hockey WA Premier League;
- WA Volleyball Association – $30,000 for the WA Volleyball League Regional Round;
- West Oz Wakeboarding – $28,650 for the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Pro Wakeboard Tournament 2025; and
- Windsurfing WA – $14,865 for the Oceania Youth Wave Titles & Junior Windsurf Camp.
